NEW: FINAL PROGRAM (pdf)
The Conference Proceedings will be published on JINST, online Journal of Instrumentation, as refereed journal papers. Instructions for authors are available here
The International Workshop on Imaging would like to approach the topic of Imaging in a different way from what is usually found at specialized meetings. Imaging techniques are used across many applications and research fields.
The public at large is familiar with biomedical imaging where main techniques are CT, SPECT/PET, MRI and Optical Microscopy. Other applications are found in engineering, cultural heritage research, security etc. where neutron and X-ray radiography and tomography play an increasing role.
The workshop will try to identify common approaches across different fields of research, techniques and scale lengths. Topics addressed will include:
- Overview of the different imaging technique
- Image formation and processing
- Algorithms for reconstruction and correction
- Image integration in space and time
- Imaging at different scale lengths
The Conference strongly encourages participation by young scientists. The programme will include tutorial lectures, invited oral presentations and posters.
The workshop is part of a long tradition of scientific events (conferences and schools) organized in the beautiful Villa Monastero at Varenna, on Lake Como. The Courses of the School held by the Italian Physical Society (http://www.sif.it/attivita/scuola_fermi), dating back to 1953, by now have become a special and precious opportunity of meeting for scientists and young physicists from all over the world and have reached considerable international prestige.
Another institution, the “Piero Caldirola International Centre” (http://www.ispp.it) hosted by Milano-Bicocca University has been running courses and workshops in Varenna since 1972.
It is especially valuable to entertain lecturers and participants to Workshops, Conferences and Advanced Schools in the Varenna charming environment, giving encouragement for scientific and philosophical discussions even outside the formal sessions, while walking in the beautiful gardens of Villa Monastero and Villa Cipressi or sitting in a small café. The meeting room in Villa Monastero (formerly a chapel) has a capacity of about 90 seats which is a convenient size for workshops aimed at an effective and informal exchange between participants.
A prize for best Poster presentation by young scientist (under 35) will be awarded during the conference.
